Packing

If you choose to pack your own items please read the tips below:
- Use cartons of adequate size and strength.
- Cushion bottom of carton with a layer of crumpled paper
- Wrap all fragile items individually.
- Pack heavier items in lower layers, lighter items in upper layers.
- Paper cushioning absorbs shock. Be generous.
- Make sure items are firmly packed. Very Important.
- Do not overfill carton. Top should close easily without bulging.
How to Pack Specific Items.
Dishware and Glasses
Use two cube cartons. Cushion the bottom with crumpled up paper. Wrap each piece individually. Bundle utensils in groups of three and wrap the bundle. Cushion the top and sides with paper to prevent shifting.
Pictures
Use a picture box. Line bottom of box with paper. Wrap picture in bubble wrap, place picture in box, then stuff front, back and along the top with paper. It is sometime possible to pack more than one picture in a box , separate with cardboard panel.
Lamps
Remove light bulbs. Pack lampshade in separate box.
Electronics
Components and small electronics should be well wrapped and cushioned in either small (2.0 cu. ft.) or medium (4.0 cu. ft.) cartons. Large console stereo and televisions should not be packed. They will be padded by driver and moved as furniture. Electronics are not covered in the event of damage or breakage.
Clothing
Place hanging items into wardrobe cartons. For every 2ft. of closet bar you will need one wardrobe box. All other folded clothing are packed in medium (4.0 cu. ft.) cartons. Place shoes in medium box.
Protection
Blankets and moving quilts are provided free of charge on moving day and are taken back at the end of the day. For fine finished wood furnishing and light colored fabrics, shrink wrap can be purchased. Ask your salesperson for details.
Items to move with you
All stocks, bonds, currency, jewelry, furs, stamps, coins, securities, insurance policies, passports and valuable papers should not be packed for transit in the van. Either transport these items yourself or make arrangements with your banker for their transfer.
Remember that all of your possessions are being loaded into the van and, by law, movers may not accept hazardous materials for shipment. Restricted items include:
- Paints, thinners, oils and varnishes
- Ammunition and firearms
- Bottled gas, propane, etc.
- Lamp oil
- All flammables, explosives and corrosives
- Motor fuels and oils
- Nail polish remover
- All aerosol cans
- Matches
- Alcohol
